5 out of 5 stars Works great but requires a little thought   December 15, 2009

I've put this on three doors, and it works really well, but you need to think a bit about what you're doing.

First off, if you haven't used any kind of v-strip before - it folds in half, into a V. There's self-stick stuff on one outer side of the V. You look at where a door or window is going to close, and stick it on such that when the door closes it will press against the pointy side, offering little resistance and pushing the V flat. When the door opens the material will spring out, at most into more of an L shape. Therefore the maximum width it can seal is half the width of the tape (and realistically a bit less). So if you see a 7/8 wide tape that seals 3/8 like this one, well, that's why.

The nice thing is that there's a fair amount of flex to it, and if you have an uneven gap it will do a pretty good job of filling it, since the door will push down as needed. It's quite thin, so if it starts binding you probably didn't need any weatherstripping anyway. It's much less frustrating than various foam or rubber solutions where you pretty much have to exactly match the width (although those probably provide more insulation if you can get them to work). I have a door that's badly wider at the bottom than the top so this is pretty much the only kind of product that's going to work.

The downside is that the first time you use it, you kind of have to puzzle out where to stick it pointing in what direction and the directions aren't that good. But if you just fold it so the stickem is on the outside and walk over to a door and hold it up and orient it so that the stickem sticks to something and the pointy side points towards the door you'll see how it has to go. It's not rocket science, but I can definitely see that if you didn't think about it and just started sticking it around you wouldn't be very happy with the results. If you don't want to be a "one star" person you can always cut off an inch and make sure you know how it all works before sticking the whole roll to the door.

5 out of 5 stars simple excellent inexpensive product that works well   November 29, 2008

Unable to get this simple product locally at H Depot, Lowes. Unlike foam weatherstipping, where if not exactly the correct size, one ends up with poor seal or the door will not completely close, this is easy to install, seems to work well on multiple doors I have utilized this on, can easily remove if necessary.

Easy to apply and stays in place. Remains flexible in all weather (at least down to about 0 degrees Fahrenheit). The plastic is thin, which prevents binding, but I was worried that the plastic might lose its spring after being compressed most of the time. However, it remains indistinguishable from new after several months usage. Seals tightly enough to keep bugs out as well as air. Beats the old copper weatherstripping, which could get rough edged and catch garments and skin.

It's made in USA too.
I put it on 2 outside doors, it was about 50 degrees F out when I applied it. It was easy to apply, stuck fine, and works great.

This V-Flex Weatherstrip is an excellent product for double hung windows ..... apply a strip of product to the top rear frame of the bottom window and a tight seal will be formed between the upper and lower windows when the windows are closed.
