very useful, overpriced August 12, 2009 S. Namikas (Louisiana) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The squeegees and application spray work very well. I used the entire bottle of spray up doing 4 windows (2 were 34"x30" and 2 34"x42") which collectively used up a bit less than one roll of the film (and I added some water and tried to be frugal with the stuff starting about halfway through the job). If you are doing more windows you may need extra bottles of the application spray (they are available separately at Lowe's). The razor knife didn't work very well - it had a tendency to tear rather than cleanly cut the film, leaving a ragged edge (not too bad - it wasn't really noticable except on very close inspection). I used a higher quality utility knife I already had instead with better results. Overall I think this kit makes doing a good job installing the film much easier, and I would buy and use it again based on my experience. It is overpriced for what you get - I doubt the items cost more than a buck or two to make and package. But the time and frustration it is likely to save are almost certainly worth more than the cost. Tip: I found the kit at Lowes for half of the $16 amazon is currently charging.
Excellent For The Product November 19, 2008 Tropicalwolf (Ohio, USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I wouldn't even try to complete the project of installing window "film" without this product. The solution is perfect for application of the film. It is best to use the "towel-over-smoother" technique. It makes soaking up the excess solution a breeze. USe the solution LIBERALLY for best results. Remember, coat both sides of the film! This is a great little kit. All you need to complete the project. Recommended!

This kit is helpful in installing GILA films. The tools are very useful. This product costs about 8.50 at Home Depot.
Don't install without this kit August 30, 2010 chrisghemm I just installed the Gila Heat Film Platinum on 5 small windows (3x4) in my house over the weekend. This kit makes everything a breeze. The spray works as expected, I actually used a lot of spray to make sure that I will not have any problem with the film sticking to itself or having bubbles in the window so I ran out of spray halfway through my project. I simply added some more water to the spray bottle it still works as a charm. On my last window, I have to make my own solution with baby soap and distilled water. I noticed that it takes more time to remove all the bubbles and fingers on the film using my own mixture but I was still able to get the job done. I'm not sure how will my own mixture perform when it comes to quality of the installation, only time will tell.
The Squeegee works great but I guess that you will need a bigger one for larger windows or patio doors.
The lint free cloth helps a lot in removing excess water.
The blade is sharp and have the built in 1/16 edge that you need to get all the water out under the film. The old kit have a ruler but this one does not. I actually went back to Lowe's where I bought this item and ask if they have the kit that comes with the ruler. They pointed out that the razor on the new kit already gives you that 1/16 inch edge and it is stated on the package. This actually makes it easier to use. The only thing is that the blade seem to lose its sharpness on my last window that I have to press harder to make sure that I cut the film.
I'm now planning on installing film on my hallway windows.
Essential kit for Gila solar film installation August 19, 2009 E. Pope (Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This kit is really an essential accompaniment for the Gila Solar Film. It is complete, and makes the installation straightforward. Instructions should be followed closely. You need no other materials, other than a ruler or straightedge for measuring the film. One tip....the film cuts quite easily and straight using sharp scissors, so I ended up marking the pieces with a felt tip pen then sliding scissors along the marked line. I found this as easy, if not easier, than using the razor knife included in the kit.
