I had no idea how much cold air comes in through windows! January 16, 2007 Mad Mike (Austin, TX) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Desperate to try and save a few bucks on my electric bill I thought I should at least give this product a try. I had no problem hanging the plastic. The double sided tape and plastic were very forgiving. My first window looks as good as the last one. You can barely tell it is there. I tried it out in one room at first to see how well it does. It works! I did the rest of my house after that. Well, I did leave a couple of windows uncovered just in case the weather warmed up. Once this stuff is up it is an all or nothing deal, that window is out of commision until you pull the plastic down. I did have a smooth surface available around each window which does help the tape adhere, might be a consideration if you have heavily textured walls. I don't know how much paint will be ripped off of the walls come spring. It is worth the risk.
3M Insulating Window film December 6, 2008 Jerry Block (Northbrook, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the Branded 3M merchandise, because it has enough thickness to apply easily. When you shrink it it goes smooth and pretty clear. The 3M tape separates fairly easily to apply it and hold the plastic well. I have used private labeled store brands before and they they don't compare to 3M.
Great--easy to apply and seals well! November 28, 2009 Laura E. Boggs (Albany NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am so glad that we bought this! We bought it right before thanksgiving and had chairs infront of our big window that would have been FREEZING before- but are perfectly fine now. It already feels a lot better by just sealing our one big window.
The kit was easy to use- the tape was very forgiving and we could easily pick it up and move it as we worked. The plastic was durable and looks like we might be able to reuse it next year!
Looks great, works great, easy install January 7, 2010 Michael Berry (Canton, MI United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this oversize window insulator kit for my 16 month old's bedroom which had a pretty good sized draft. The window is quite large (68 x 64) so this is the kit that I needed. Upon receiving the kit I followed the instructions and from start to finish the install took me around half an hour. The majority of the time was spent dealing with the cords for the blinds (the included instructions detail how to install this over blinds).
Once complete and hairdryed, the plastic film is barely noticeable. At certain angles I can see a slight glare, however I may do another pass with the hair dryer as I don't think I got out every last wrinkle. This is a simple process and a little bit fun to do and watch the wrinkles go away.
As for performance of the insulator, I am amazed. It has only been up for one night and my daughter's room is noticeably warmer. I'm not sure how much I will save on the gas bill, but the room is so much more comfortable now! I have a lot of leftover plastic, so I am going to apply it to the other windows in our house.
save energy and save money June 6, 2010 ilanes (london, UK) everyone who doesnt have double glazed windows should buy this in the winter and put it on. if not for the environment and energy use, then for the money you'll save on your energy bills....
